Michelangelo Buonarroti began work on the Sistine Chapel in 1508 and completed the ceiling in 1512. Michelangelo was born on 6 March 1475, so when he began painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling, he was 33 years old and would have been 37 when the work was completed.
